Looking for more holograms in your life? As of today, The Looking Glass company has a new product on Kickstarter – the Looking Glass Go. It’s smaller than the Portrait in every way and an amazing way to make holograms portable.
Building on their existing line of personal and professional products, the Go incorporates the same multi-view display technology, but in a much smaller form factor. It can be powered from a battery pack and connected to a PC or phone wirelessly (if desired) to manage its images or run standalone to show images in its built-in memory. The Portrait had similar features, except you could only manage the images when connected via USB-C. Being able to find an image and send it to the Go from your phone is a game-changer as it allows you to finally use it as a completely standalone product.
The Go takes up less space on your desk, probably fits into many coat pockets (it’s like a larger thicker phone) and has better pixel density presumably leading to a sharper display. When folded up, it can be hung on the wall, or stashed away. Instead of a metal bracket to attach to the bottom to make it freestanding (it also has wall-mount holes in the back), the Go just opens to any angle for comfortable viewing. It looks a bit like a charging stand at first glance.
I’ve had a Looking Glass Portrait since their original campaign and have just loved it. I look forward to receiving my Go and providing a more in-depth review of it. If you have an interest in holographic images without the headset, check it out and grab the early backer rewards fast!
I’ve assembled some key details from the campaign page. Some of these may change as Kickstarter campaigns often add details as they move from prototypes to release. I’ll update here as that happens.
