Tired of trying to get a good fit from the default Quest 3 headstrap? Hoping to save money over the official Meta elite headstrap? Then the ZyberVR ACE Elite Strap for the Quest 3 might be the choice for you!
Installation
As with the last ZyberVR headstrap that we reviewed, the ACE Elite installs pretty easily. You need to fold it straight and thread a velcro cross-piece, then snap off your current headstrap and snap on the new one. It took me a second to understand the photo of straightening it out, but that’s more on me, I think. All in all, it took just a few minutes and doesn’t require any tools or excessive strength.
Usage
Like their original version, this Elite version includes the big round knob on the back to tighten around your head. I appreciate how easy it is to tighten and loosen. No messing with velcro straps and hard-to-reach clasps to adjust. If I only adjusted the headset occasionally, it might be less of a big deal, but every time I want to share the experience with someone I need to adjust again!
The thing that makes the Elite stand out is the top adjuster. The part that goes over your head isn’t just a cloth strap, but rather a more rigid arch with another knob on top and a padded piece that touches your head. Theoretically both points of adjustment are easier to manage.
Comfort
The key with any headset accessory is how it affects wearing it. How much weight does it add? Does it throw off the balance? Does it feel better so you can play longer? For the most part, I have to give the ACE Elite high marks. It’s pretty light, build quality appears high, balance is great, and it seems like a win to have top and rear adjustments.
Unfortunately, for me personally, it doesn’t work as well as their non-elite version. Nothing to do with functionality, just that the top of my head is more sensitive than I realized. I can’t wear it for more than a few minutes without starting to get a headache. I imagine most people don’t have that problem, but I’m probably not alone either.
Highlights
- Nice look
- Good quality
- More adjusting is better
Summary
To be clear, the ACE Elite Strap is well-made at a good price. The addition of the top dial really makes a difference for a better fit. While reviewing it I had some other people try it and they agreed it made it more comfortable.
I don’t know if there’s anything to help the top strap if your head is too sensitive. Maybe a pad that’s more like gel instead of rubber. For me, I’ll continue to use their previous model. I definitely recommend this version if you can wear it though. It should help you to play longer.
